How to treat feline glaucoma

  • My cat has some symptoms of glaucoma can it is treated? What should I do now?

  • Hi there, I am sorry to hear this.

Glaucoma is not common in cats and more commonly eye issues are due to e.g. corneal ulcers, uveitis or infections.

When glaucoma is an issue, signs can include eye pain, cloudy eyes, dilated pupils and reduced vision.

If glaucoma is suspected, a vet visit is key so we can check the eyes and measure intra ocular eye pressure. It is an urgent issue and we'd want the cat seen ASAP.

Treatment can include pain relief, medicine to drain excess fluid etc.

Sometimes, surgery is helpful, depending on the cause of glaucoma (for example, if the cause is a lens luxation).
