How to stop male cat from peeing in corners?

  • I have a 9month old male cat who periodically pees in corners. I have cleaned up areas and put stuff down so he can't do it again but he finds other spots then.

  • Hi Mona,

Often male cats will instinctively spray urine by way of marking his territory. If your cat has not been neutered, I would recommend doing so - as this will help prevent the behaviour from occurring. If he has been neutered, there may be something happening that is causing him stress. Perhaps another cat or dog in the area? Construction in the neighborhood? A disruption to his daily routine? Perhaps his litterbox is not clean enough for his liking? If stress is not the cause, you may want to consider a trip to your veterinarian to rule out any underlying health issues.
In the meantime, you could try a synthetic pheromone such as Feliway to help reduce his stress. Available in store and online.
For cleanup, be sure to avoid using bleach or ammonia-based solutions, as they will only attract him to the area again.
